Through Healthcare Now, I discovered change.org – a website where we can vote on and submit ideas that the Obama administration should listen to. There’s health care, calling for support of HR 676. And there’s marriage equality. There are a couple of ideas for replacing the word “marriage” with “civil union,” at least on the government side (here and here and here and here – apparently people don’t read others ideas before submitting their own…). Calls to repeal DOMA are there as well. Renewed calls for the separation of religion and state. Then there are the ideas that miss that LGBT marriage does not mean equality for all. The unmarried will remain second class citizens. And, finally, there are a couple of ideas that move beyond marriage: A call to eliminate marriage; or offer binding pacts to any two people. Not much but better than nothing!
