Bodies
terrifyingly dangerous
about hugs
for I learned
not to hug
especially not men.
What makes them so
dangerous
that I learned to avoid
them like the plague?
Especially when I want more
than a hug.
Is that what our
culture is based on?
Bodies are dirty,
dangerous,
to be avoided,
to be ignored.
And we claim
we have come
so much further
when we’re really still
stuck in the thinking
of the Middle Ages.
Bodies are sin.
Not perfect as they are
with all their flubber
and desires
they have to be shaped
and controlled
worked out
until they have no
trace of fat left.
Hated all along
for how they are
for what they do
for what they desire.
Especially the desire.
Desire endangers
civilization
life itself, really.
Suppress it.
Flagellate it out of you.
Rechannel it.
Just don’t live it
You’ll be sorry if you do
for reality will catch up
with you
in the end
there will be only pain.
Bodies desire
and that’s what makes
them so dangerous
we have to get rid of them
or at least shape them up
so that we can control them.
Except it doesn’t work.
They go on desiring.
So we go on suppressing
shaping
working out
running away from
what we truly want
for wanting is sin
just like in the
Dark Ages.
a very moving and powerful poem ! it feels like it’s coming from the heart and goes directly to mine……….important and sensitive topic for everyone with a grave message (almost a warning) about the direction our culture is driving us to destruction
