Are you Rising?
Seriously, though, as some of the comments during the recent US Presidential election, disrespect of women is still very rampant, and disrespect is what perpetuates – and permits – physical violence against women. So a powerful action like an international uprising seems like it might cut through the clutter of business-as-usual.
And then there are the statistics. One in 3 women will experience some form of physical violence that is targeted against her because she is a woman. Raped. Beaten. That means one-third of the women you know, possibly yourself!
When i first started talking about my own experience, i was startled by how many women responded by sharing their own stories of violence against women. It seemed like they were everywhere. We are. 1 in 3.
So if you don’t want to do it for some activist reason or the anthem just doesn’t get you dancing, rise for those of us who you know. Please help break the chain.
Und hier ist dir Organization in Deutschland.
THANK YOU FOR THIS REMINDER AND THIS RALLY CALL, RACHEL !!
WE NEED IT….THE STRUGGLE IS TREMENDOUS……generations, millenia of socially accepted violence against women……to change that is like changing the climate destruction…which goes along with women-battering…
…is there a site online for details??
BTW, i often read that ‘1 in 3’ is the statistic of REPORTED abuses……which signifies there are many UNREPORTED……
Yes, there is a site online: onebillionrising.org.
The 1 in 3 statistic comes from the UN and, too, could imagine that this is way underreported, especially if we count all violence, not only physical.
