Women Against Sarah Palin

Thanks to the Feminist Philosophers’ blog, I am starting to turn my shock about the popularity of Sarah Palin into action. Women are starting to speak out against Palin, which gives me hope! Including in Alaska, where a recent rally drew record crowds to reject Palin. Not all of us are falling for the gynecological twin enthusiasm of the Palin supporters… First, there’s Gloria Steinem. Well, and Tina Fey‘s opinion also counts… And then there’s a host of organizations of Women Against Palin. I will try to keep a collection here, hoping that someone will create an umbrella organization (or point me to an already existing one…).

There’s a blog and a website with a petition. And there’s another petition.

There are lots of facebook groups:

Sign up and spread the word! If you know of other organizations/groups like this, please add them in the comments. There are also gender-neutral groups but since I am a woman and since the Republican rhetoric is so annoyingly pseudo-feminist, I think it’s time for us women to speak out, especially as women.

And here’s another woman speaking out: From a working mother’s perspective, Sarah Palin is perpetuating the myth that women can easily (!) have it all. As Leslie points out, this will make it more difficult for working mothers (and fathers) to fight for the help that they in reality need, things like birth control, child care, and flexible work arrangements. To me, it remains a mystery how Palin does everything that I couldn’t do with even one child (I was fortunate to have wonderful child care as well as very considerate and flexible managers but it was still tough and I wasn’t working 24/7…).
